On Monday, gold rose by Rs 40 to Rs 32,690 per 10 grams on the back of buying by retailers and jewelers.
Dhanteras is celebrated with great enthusiasm in North India and Western India. Due to the strengthening of the dollar against the world’s major currencies, the global gold market has been hit by a downturn, thereby making some curb on the rise in gold prices in the domestic market. Sarfra traders said that the sale of diamond and gold jewelery, along with many other incentives, offered a discount of 20 percent more in the business of the day and later it is likely to increase further.
He said that on the occasion of this festival, heavy gold coins and silver coins were seen in huge amount. He said gold prices are at the highest level of nearly six years. In the national capital, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity rose by Rs 40-40 to Rs 32,690 and Rs 32,540 per 10 gram respectively.
On Saturday it had increased by 20-20 rupees. However, the price of Guinness remained unchanged at Rs 24,900 per eight grams. In the futures trade, MCX gold traded lower by Rs 22, or 0.09 per cent, to Rs 31,723 per 10 grams in futures trade. Silver ready also rose by Rs 10 to Rs 39,540 per kg, but in line with weak global cues, silver weekly delivery fell by Rs 183 to Rs 38,637 per kg.
